Community Youth Theatre Projects

Take the first step into the world of youth-led theatre.

At WEYA we are all about helping you to unlock your creative potential.

Our CYT projects are designed for young people, aged 13 to 25, who want to be part of an inclusive creative community.

They are a fun way to meet like-minded people, talk about the issues you care about in your community, and most importantly, gain the confidence to be yourself. In this safe environment you can explore the wonderful world of theatre making and find your own artistic expression along the way.

Workshops are run by professional theatre makers and local support artists who will introduce you to improvisation, physical theatre techniques, rap, spoken word, song, dance, stage combat, script writing and playback techniques to name a few.

In 2019, you can join a CYT project in Footscray, St Albans, North Geelong* or Wyndham. The weekly workshops run between April and November and you will also have the chance to meet participants from the other groups, share your work with them and create together.

In November there will be a short period of intensive rehearsals leading to a combined public performance you will create and perform with other young people for audiences from across Melbourne to show them the world through your eyes!

*Our CYT project in North Geelong will run between March – July.

'Since I have been working with Western Edge I have learnt so many things – for example, to speak confidently in front of people and I have improved my English. The group provides a place where people who may be feeling alone can come together and be welcome.'

For more information about workshops contact Western Edge Youth Arts on 03 8658 4052.
